kofis discussion questions (127-128)

In Chapter 127, Queequeg's coffin is referenced as immortal.  Why would a coffin be illustrated to symbolize spirituality?



At the end of chapter 128 the narrator illustrates a boat to be a maternal figure missing its child.  Why would Melville use a killing machine to symbolize motherhood?
